The Lake View Toya Nonokaze Resort ザレイクビュ Toya 乃の風リゾート
The hotel
The Lake View Toya Nonokaze Resort is special for its views and setting, among the very good food and the stunning rotenburo. Such combination makes your stay absolutely memorable and the slightly higher budget is totally worth the price.
The huge glass platforms installed throughout the hotel give direct views of the volcanic caldera lake of Toya. Behind the hotel is one of the youngest erupted volcanos of Japan, the stratovolcano of Mount Usu (last erupted in March 31, 2000).
The onsen
There is a very big infinity rotenuburo on the top floor of the hotel from where you can watch sunset and have a direct gaze at the lake and the perfectly shaped Mount Yotei in the back of the lake.
The food
The difference between a hotel and a ryokan is mainly that in a hotel you get buffet arrangements for dinner and breakfast while in a Ryokan you get a kaiseki dinner, a multi-course menu served at your table. Buffets can be difficult to decipher, as you don’t know exactly what are you eating, nor you know the order in which you should eat your food. Morevover in budget hotels buffets can be somewhat underwhelming in quality. At this hotel they were absolutely stunning: a sushi master prepared fresh sushi and sashimi in front you; at a bbq corner another cook was making great steaks; the choice of deserts was remarkable. All in all we had 0 complaints. Breakfast was equally jummy.
The rooms
When you book the cheapest type of room (standard room) at an upscale resort or ryokan, it often happens that what you get is quite mediocre, both is size and in views. This is not the case here: no view discriminations since each room has the lake view. Great 🙂 !
